Salmon in the Classroom Benefactor
The Great Lakes Bay Region Steelheaders are happy to announce that our Salmon in the Classroom project has acquired a sponsor “CanaDream”.
CanaDream is one of the largest RV rental companies in Canada. It began in 1995 and now has approximately 800 RV units, which are built by the Forest River Plant #34 in Elkhart, Indiana. From any one of their seven rental sites you can start on your dream vacation across Canada. Not only do they rent RV’s, but they will help you plan for a successful trip. Check out their web site at www.canadream.com or you may call 1-800-480-9726 for more information.
Ryan Cline (a member of our Chapter) works for the Forest River Plant #34. He approached Terry Harris (Fleet Development Consultant) for CanaDream, in hopes of obtaining a donation for our Chapters annual Auction. Ryan provided Terry with our Mission Statement and spoke of our Salmon in the Classroom program which benefits the children with a hands on approach to raising salmon and learning the environment in which they live.
Terry then coordinated everything to make this donation possible.
The workers at Forrest River Plant #34 generously agreed that they would abstain from their annual Thank You gifts from CanaDream and have that money donated to the Salmon in the Classroom project.
On Wednesday June 23rd, Terry presented a check to Ryan in the amount of $1500.00. On July 19th, Ryan presented the check to our President Mark Trudell. The money will be used to purchase a chiller and help the school set up for their adventure into the life cycle of Salmon.
The DNR has approved the donation of the 200 salmon eggs needed. The Principle, Debbie Bradford will be attending a class at the Platte River state fish hatchery on Nov 6th which is provided by the DNR for teachers, to aid them in preparation of teaching this program.
At the end of the project, the salmon will be released into the Tittabawassee River.
We send our sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to CanaDream, Ryan Cline, Terry Harris and the employees of Forest River Plant #34 for helping us to continue with our mission to help promote and educate with respect to this great source we have here in Michigan…Fishing
